Alka Yagnik

Ego can be such bad thing sometimes.
Talent is good but one needs to be humble too!

Perhaps they humiliated her or something, can't say but it is difficult to imagine still..

Vmware Fusion

I am just wowed by this virtualization software - runs Windows in parallel to OS X and there's hardly any let up in speed or performance at all.

And in spite of it all, OS X takes just a miniscule 300Mb of memory to run it all - of course Windows demands 500Mb without doing anything much at all :P

Something funny happened!

I took all effort to partition my MAC and install Windows in another partition - boot into windows, get all th stuff done - looks nice and feels nice.

Yet I came back to OS X coz somehow it felt a little better. I wonder why!!!!!!!!!

Rahman Rocks!!

Went to his concert last night - though it was over-long by almost 20 minutes, I must say he brought the house down. That too a desi house down, a majority of whom who just love to sit on their chairs and watch others sing!!! Why can't people stand and cheer like in other concerts??

I was concerned they might sing too many Tamil songs, but I was wrong - he did sing, but not too many. Ultimately a very long, but enjoyable concert. It could have been even more awesome though!!!!

Frogs in the well

The well in this case, our swimming pool. So there i was, the lone warrior in our swimming pool last evening - it was cold, cloudy and gloomy. Ordinary humans would of course assume that because it was cold outside, the water in the pool would be colder. What do they know?

Water follows day pattern? The pool is more likely to be cold today because it was cold yesterday - and since day before yesterday was warm, I was right - it was actually warmer in the pool than it was outside. I luv such days :D

Anyways, coming back to frogs - here was I enjoying blissful laps one after another and take a small break to drink some water, when the lifeguard tells me - "Two big frogs jumped into the pool today - I've been trying to catch them since morning, but I haven't been able to! Make friends with them"

Frogs usually can't handle chlorine and die very quickly, and yet they were nowhere to be found.

That quickly drenched any appetite I had left for swimming. So I jumped out, dried myself and headed home :(

Damn those frogs!

MAC: why are you so blue PC?
PC: Well I tried this Safari browser and now I keep crashing.
MAC: Well if you were a Mac and used our browser you wouldn’t have this problem.
PC: What browser do you use Mac?
MAC: Internet Explorer..

Computer failure on ISS

Can this International Space Station project be disbanded once and for all? Putting astronauts life at risk, half of this big station absolutely nothing useful to mankind - jeez, why is this ISS being pursued at all.

I suggest, disband the ISS - scrape the project - and every country should put the amount they are investing into it into Africa and AIDS research.

I can't stop ROFLing over this.
People don't even get to ask President Bush any questions back home, not even see him, let alone shake hands with him or anything.

Team India

I'd still just prefer to call them the Indian team. Team India is a stupid and made up name in my opinion.

Anyway, it seems after Ford, Embury also refused the offer. Also, Borde looks like a coach in name only. In fact, he is not even attending the practice sessions starting shortly!

Steve Jobs Keynote at WWDC

Steve Jobs is known for his Keynote addresses, where he launches something cool - there was one today which came with a lot of hype about Leopard, Apple's next OS.

Turns out, this was THE LAMEST keynote speech ever.

What's worse, for a company that keeps constantly cribbing about is superior OS, Leopard seems to be a copy of err.. VISTA!!!

Did i say Vista :).... Now I am not sure if I want to switch over to Mac :D :D :D - Maybe I will save money!!! heheheh!!!

Indian Cricket

There's a problem with Indian Cricket. Its not the players. Its not BCCI. Its collectively a big mess.

Some real cleanup is required - starting with firing of Pawar and his goondas, Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag, Zaheer, Bhajji and the likes, and might as well add Sourav to it.

User feeds

The user feeds were broken as a result of the upgrade. Mainly because now there could be multiple threads and multiple feeds etc.

I had to go through hell to add this custom functionality again, but they are working now :)

People other than supremus here might not know what the hell I'm talking about here but the main point is.. Everything's working fine! :)

That said, the main site feed has been functioning as usual all this time. You can add those to your favorite feed readers or otherwise by clicking on the appropriate buttons on the "Subscribe "menu on the left. And if you need the main RSS feed URL, as you would have guessed from the XML button on the subscribe menu, it is:

feeds.feedburner.com/nonstoprants

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

I admit when the show first premiered I thought it was a completely silly reality TV show where adults would be pitted against 5th graders and challenged on their knowledge. I was of the opinion that the producers would willingly chose only dumb idiots who wouldn't know the answers to questions we'd learned way back in 5th grade or earlier.

Turns out, I am wrong. I find it hard to answer a couple of questions myself!! And contestants are no dumbos either - last night a history school teacher lost it within the first 4 questions, and a rocket scientist bowed at after first 2.

Though the questions are US centric for most part, I often can answer a lot of questions, though I am equally stumped by other half of questions as well :D - it definitely is a challenge...

Last night... I was stupendously confused which continent mount kilminjaro was in - Asia or Africa!

Yes the Jedi, as usual, was evaluating a new product for NSR called Expression Engine. And after all was said and done he realised what he had already known all this time. EE is a piece of crap! :P

Yayyyy!!

I start my formalities for the transfer at deloitte from today! :D It's a contract between me and the firm, so I've to take No Objection Certificates and all that jazz, but last night, I almost cried when Dad told me how he met the senior partner at Deloitte firm who had interviewed me a month back.

I was so surprised that he actually remembered the things we had discussed that day, and he told my dad, "there's a spark in her, and I want to be a witness to her career".

Now that gave me such a tremendous high! :D :D :D I have not slept whole night! :D

And talking..

..about films!

There was a time I used to look at the film guide and decide which films I was gonna see when but never even look at the Hindi section or Hindi film of the week, depending upon how many were running. Yes there were times when people would highly recommend a certain film and I would look forward to its release - your Lagaans and Blacks for example.

I never thought I'd ever say this, but its true. These days the first thing I do is check which Hindi film is on. This is a great compliment to Bollywood really. Suddenly I feel Hollywood films are getting full of crap while the standard in Hindi cinema is fast improving. Even the much awaited "blockbusters" like Spiderman and Pirates proved such disappointments. Well done Bollywood!

Suddenly..

..the weather stinks! Yesterday was so bright and sunny but I was hooked to the TV all day. The Southern hemisphere teams (New Zealand, Australia, South Africa) really thrashed the ones from the north. I hope the trend continues once the World Cup starts.

I hope the weather gets better as the day progresses. I have a few films lined up!

Shootout

At Lokhandwaala...Based on true rumours. That's what they call it.

No No, it's now known as "Shootout at Lokhandwaala...A Hit flick because of rumours"

The moive is absolutely s*** except for the background score and the slow motion walk of sanjay dutt.

And gogo, even he's got weird teeth....

What's happened to my Life

I am stuck in the foreign country almost alone. No friends to talk to infact I have lost all my friends over a period of time. Only one girlfriend left but we hardly get to talk to each as we are in different continents.

Usually I am complaining that I don't have work to do now that I have loads i have lost complete concentration. Just keep staring at files.

No one to cook for me or even make a cup of coffee. If I need anything I have to do it myself. I am so upset at the moment that I just want to back my bags and take a flight home. But I also know I won't do it. It's just so frecking, annoyingly lonely. If only I can get my mom over here, which is not possible (some reasons).

I don't even get to eat golgappas or mangoes. I hate my life :(

And to add

to the misery, I just paid my phonebill! :-(

Bill payment is a curse to humanity.

I should not be charged for anything.

yawn

It's 10:30 am on a saturday, and I am sleepy.

And I have this headache.

Cloudy and gloomy weather does that to me.

It's weird out here.. daytime temp rises to 43 friggin degrees, and it's humid at the same time, and gets cloudy suddenly!

And then, this humidity (and cold weather at times) makes my right hand ache. If only I didn't have that fracture when I was 3! :-(

Vista blues

I hope I don't regret the decision of moving to Vista. So far its only managed to piss me off. I hope it pleases the Jedi soon enough, lest the Jedi decides to kill it! :P

Mahiya!

Jesus, somebody made me hear this song from Awarapan. I am absolutely hooked - I have been hearing this song nonstop for the last 1 hour now!!!

A little digging reveals, the original was sung by a Paki (no surprises here!) and was adapted to India by guess who - the master - Pritam.

Only one thing - why the hell change the original voice in your rendition, when u can have her on the remix?!

Nonetheless.... Mahiya... somewhere out there i know there's someone waiting for me mahiya... :P

I wish I could

practice what i preach! :P

my friend was having some issues with her other friend.. i suggested her not to cut off the ties, u might regret doing so later, and at times, it might get impossible to make amends.

At times, I wish I could rewind just a bit and.. umm.. things are right where they went sour, and I could mm.. start afresh! :-)

Too late, I think! :-)

Bill Gates & Steve Jobs

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs came together for a rare joint interview after almost over a decade and half at All-things-digital conference.

Two of perhaps the biggest icons in computing industry together side by side. It was a wonderful laidback interview - I've seen half the video yesterday, and will finish the other half today.

The two of them exactly come off like the Mac vs PC commercials - Mac/Steve - the smug, cool, arrogant, proud techie and PC/Bill - nerdy, laidback, very open.

And in the end Bill came off (till now that is) as more open, approachable, laidback and more likeable than Steve Jobs.

Can't wait to finish the other half of interview. You guys should catch it up!
