When I
came home, I just announced to my parents, "I went to Gurudwara today with my friend".
On that, Dad tells me, "shaadi karni thi toh mandir mein jaati, gurudwara kyun?"
I was like, HUHH???

Gurudwara
I went to this Gurudwara with my friend today.
There was a Langar there, and both of us said at the same time, "ek din hum aayenge langar mein"! I don't know the traditions, but I would definitely love to go there!
I am now more determined to go to Amritsar's Golden Temple. One day, I will!
Sadly, I could not get the kada! :-( I want a kada! :-( :-( :-(

Lost
People seem lost after the latest episode of lost. It has certainly stirred everyone's imagination. I must say it was a good twist. Now only if characters start dying very quickly, this will become a great show! :D

Today..
..is still Thursday but there is a strange Friday feel to it. I'm having to constantly remind myself that this is not Friday.
This probably means I'm in a good mood and stress free. That means certain doom for the Klingons! They've had it now!

Glad to be back!!
Went to Houston to visit my friends for long weekend - was fun at friends, but was totally ridiculous at airports. Jeez, after much delays, cancellations and all, I am happy to be back!!
Home sweet home - updates later!

Monsoon has arrived, hopefully! :D :D
the pessimist in us (the amdavadis) think that this is yet another pre-monsoon shower which will end with more heat and humidity and creepy bugs!
the optimist in me thinks there is a lot of greenery stored in for me! :D yay!

So..
I couldn't really watch Koffee with Karan yesterday. I was too sleepy for that kind of adventure. However, I have recorded it and will see it as soon as I feel like breaking my TV or choking someone. Seriously though, I'll try and watch it today.
One thing that struck me. All of Kekta's serials begin with a 'K' - Kahani ghar ghar ki, kyunki saas.., kasauti something ki.. etc. All of Karan's films too - Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho na Ho, Kabhi Alvida .. and so on.
Now if the two of them were to marry, one of two things could happen. The 'K's will either multiply or neutralize themselves. Hopefully the latter will take place. I think they should seriously consider it. If it was upto me I'd pass a law to get them married.
Can't get enough of the 'K' goodness. *feels sick*

Just Wondering
how people get satisfied with one profession/job so easily, they never try to venture out or change the track.
Yes, yes there are jobs and there are dream jobs. But the key to both of them is financial security.

Ek Hasina thi
is a remake of Sidney sheldon's novel "If tomorrow comes". All credit to Ramu for not letting the author down.
Now i hope he gets the idea to make a sequel to it wherein the protagonist 'urmila' in this case becomes a cunning and clever thief, she'll definately give SRK a run for his money in D3.

Its funny
how guys usually find it awkward calling up girls at their house especially if her father picks up the phone! :D
Even if the parents are not too strict or conservative, most of the guys usually think twice before calling up the girl! :D

Argh!
Now, no matter how much I hated going through those bug infested files for audit, I kind of miss it now.
More so because there is simply no work. The accounts are not ready, so there is no point in going and sitting at office.
So I have been at home, almost the whole of last week (except for one day when we went because something was ready). And I have overslept!
I wake up late, and because I have nothing to do, I end up sleeping in afternoon, and so, I cant sleep at night, and then wake up late the next morning!
Good thing is, I am catching up on a lot of reading these days. Reading a lot of books I wanted to read since long and also the gujarati literature and all. So it's not that bad either! :P
But, I am.. umm.. BORED! :D

After a relatively busy enough week, this is turning out to be one boring day!

finally PS3 supports streaming media!! One would have imagined that this feature would have been packed in for a 600$ device, but it came out almost 6 months late!
Now I can finally stream media from my PC to PS3.

I'm insane!
So this long weekend I am visiting a friend where we are having a mini get together. We will be sailing, hitting the beach or sipping cold drinks (:D) in swimming pools.
And yet, what do I pack for this trip? 2 Jean pents, 4 t-shirts, camera, toothbrush and the likes.
Considering I'll be spending half my time in water, why didn't it ever occur to me that I must carry some swim shorts too? And perhaps swim goggles?!!!
Jeez - and I spent 15 minutes in packing last night!

The long lost song...
Doesn't a smile come over your face when you hear a song on radio, a song that some time in life you loved to death, but haven't heard it in years, that is, until the radio played it for you, without you ever expecting it.
Doesn't it always bring back the images of something associated with that song?
I just had that moment just now - listening to "Side" by Travis. How did I ever grow out of this song?

The smell of earth...
...when its just rained after a hot humid day. Sadly even that smell is bland in this country :(. Ah those days of hostel - on days that it rained after a hot day, there was this smell from earth that was so relaxing. Off we would head with a sutta in 1 hand and omlette in another to a place near the base of a mountain.

Temple (Cont'd...)
- A full fledged discussion must ensue in the Temple canteen between 2 couples of how much they can eat? "Lets take 4 channa-puris, 4 yogurt rice and 4 sambar rice. No yaar, 4 will be too much - lets take 3 and share. No-No 3 might be too much, plus I am not that big of sambar fan. How about 4 channas, 2 sambar and 2 Yogurt rice then? Ek kaam karthe hain...Lets make it 3 Channas, 3 yogurt and 2 sambar...." - I had lost count what numbers they settled on finally!
- Only luxurious vehicles owners get exclusive Car Pujas. Civic, Camry, Corolla - these are petty cars, hence, they can be combined and blessed in 1 Puja. However Lexus, BMW, Benz deserve special attention; hence they are handled singularly. And oh, those items who are trying to show off their new cars - Get over it!!! These days every third desi owns a BMW!
And lastly:
- The hymn of chants, the smell of camphor and the clinging of bells always brings about a nostalgic feeling.
Somehow in midst of chaos though, I am always at peace in a temple. I wish I could go there more regularly.

Temple
I went to a temple after what seemed like few months now. And I am glad i did. It gives me hope. It also give me hope that no matter how western our culture might become, some things will not change. Ever.
Including:
- The moment the priest comes out with the prasad plate, everyone must converge onto him at once to get the prasad as quickly as possible. Never mind that there are only 20 people around and the prasad in his hands could easily feed 50.
- Somebody has to crib after getting the "teerth" that priests should also give them a tissue paper to wipe their hands of the holy water. [Why must then I ask, should you not get one from home itself when u fully know u are going to be in a temple?!!]
-The ABCD kids have no idea why or who they are praying in front of. Decorated in prettiest Indian dresses (Kurta-Pyjama for boys, Lehengas for girls), they must at once show others how "Indian" they are, and at th e same time follow their parent's rituals - "Pray to this god for this, This god for that, This one for this issue...." and so on. Never mind that the kid has absolutely no idea what he/she is doing there.
Cont'd...

I persevered
I realised that the reason I had those crashes in my compiled version of the IM client were because of genuine reported bugs. If you're wondering what I'm talking about read this.
So I went in extracted an in development beta release and redid the whole thing. And viola! I now have a cool IM client. Perseverance pays sometimes. It also helps when you have nothing better to do! :P

Conversation
Arun Lal: Quite a few people in the stadium here even today, Athar.
Athar Ali Khan: Yes Arun.
Arun Lal: But I expected a few more than that..
Athar: Some of them are in the trees.
What?!?
Camera turns to take an outside shot of the stadium. The sun is setting, its almost dark.. Strange shadowy creatures are hoping around in the tree..
Another over finishes. The same sad, slow, Bengali song that has been played all day is played again. It sounds strangely familiar and goes something like this:
"Hamaaaaaar tumhaaaar
Ishaaaar bheeshhaaar.. Moshai.. Khoshai.. Toshai Bhoshai..."
Somewhere in the commentary box you hear someone talking in a very low voice "I'm so sleepy"

Sacre bleu!
I am majorly irritated right now. I'm gonna try not name any names here.
Ubuntu comes with a default IM client, which basically sucks. Its too old and clunky. Recently, the wonderful world of opensource created a much modern and better version of it.. with a new name too. But guess what. They have an installer available only for one particular version of Linux. The very first thing this "open source organisation" did though was create a great install for Windows.. which is sooo friggin ironic!
Anyhow, there I am taking the pains of compiling it from source for my specific platform, gathering thousands of libraries and what not and building ultimately one for myself. Don't ask me why, I'm just stubborn sometimes! I must have spent half a DAY on it!!
And guess what? The bloody things crashes as soon as I log into a yahoo account! Reason? "unrecognisable bug in software, please report this bug at so and so" WTF?
Anyway, I could have written me own client in this time. Ridiculous!
Erm.. please ignore this post NSR! :P

Finally PS3 sees my external USB drive!
Jesus - How in f***'s world did SONY design this PS3?
Now I have a lot of music on my external USB drive. One would imagine that plugging this external USB drive into the PS3 USB port would mean that everything I have on the drive would be accessible via PS3.
No.
For starter - PS3 doesn't do NTFS. Nada - PS3 likes only FAT32. Which means my 100Gig drive had to be broken down to 3 32 Gig drives of Fat32 because 32Gigs is max on Fat32 system.
Does that solve the problem? Heck No. What do you think? PS3 doesn't detect MULTIPLE PARTITIONS! So - I end up deleting 2 partitions and make my 100Gig drive now a 1 single 32Gig Fat32 Drive. My music is barely fitting it.
But does this solve the problem? What do you know :P - PS3 likes to have it stuff in specific folders. So if your music is NOT in your "MUSIC" folder, PS3 doesnt like to see it unless you go through some advanced clicks and buttons and menu settings!!
JEEEEEEEEZZ!! What the hell.
Umm... but at the end of it, the sweet sound of music through PS3 was err...umm... worth it :D :D :D

So it seems India are playing Bangladesh in Shittagong!
Bangladesh have such esteemed bowlers like Rajan Saleh, Chaman Kutte, Mashrafi Ashrafi and Ashrafi Brushrafi. Also such excellent batsmen like Mohd Ashrafull, Mohd Ashrahalf and Mohd Ashrathreequarters..
